Giftmas Decorations 2014

It is that time of year again Gentle Readers! Yes! The Giftmas Season is upon us!

There is so much weirdness that goes on around this time of year. I often wonder about who it is that makes the decisions about what “themes” people will want to have on their trees, and in their living rooms. Would you like to know more?

Christmas Eve

Solstice was on Saturday, which means two things around here. The first is that the days will begin getting longer from here on out (yay). The second is that Winter has finally begun, so you’d never know the days are getting longer because it’s so overcast. Longest darkest day of the year suddenly makes sense of all the lights, doesn’t it?

And you know, the Christmas tram … Would you like to know more?

A Visitor

There was an unexpected visitor. He/She/It arrived on Friday night, and the first Himself and I knew about it was when Edgar was toying with him. I’m afraid it has finally happened. We’ve had in our apartment our first Amsterdam mouse. We always thought they wouldn’t be stupid enough to come into our apartment because of the smell of the cats. But it seems we were mistaken.

Edgar cornered Mickey, and Himself and I went into action to try and get him captured. We bailed him up inside the facing of the wardrobe, intent on purchasing baits and traps the next day up at the local garden centre. (We’d seen baits here on previous visits, so it was as good a place as any to start.)

As we walked through the car-park we got a hint that two weekends to Giftmas may have been the wrong time to go to the local Garden Centre. It was PACKED with families and their dogs. It was also done over to make the most of the season.

Upon entrance you could see the small live fir trees lining the pathway, but there was also a very distinct sound, and some suspicious giggling coming from around a blind corner. As we looked at each other and tried to convince ourselves that it couldn’t possibly be true, we rounded the corner to be confronted with a train and children riding it.

But that was nothing compared to what was around the NEXT corner! Would you like to know more?

Giftmas is Coming!

It’s November! It must be that time again! Time for me to show you what I’ve been finding in stores since September! (Yes, really.)

Honestly? I’ve found a lot of the stores to be a little lacklustre this year. It’s been a little disappointing. But I’ve pulled out the best for you! (Psst! The best was from Fortnum & Mason.) Would you like to know more?

’tis the Season!

I spy with my little eye, an Alessi Nativity!

It must mean that Giftmas is just around the corner! Yes! Why look at that! It’s ornaments as ornaments! How meta! (or inception, or something …)

Gnomes and woodland creatures seem to be big this year.

Though, pastel cupcakes always make me think of Giftmas!

If you need something a little more plush, there’s the usual array of singing … things …

Or you can have decapitated polar bear above your mantel for that really cozy (gezellig) touch!

Though you can never really be sure it’s giftmas until you’ve seen a hula-ing frog,

Photobucket

a monkey and a giraffe doing ballet,

and an alligator in a santa suit on a bicycle!

It’s good to see that being on the other side of the world hasn’t changed the true meaning of giftmas! 😉

I hope you’re all counting down!
