My Bicycle

I would like to take this moment to introduce you all to my bicycle. Resplendent in its black panier bags, and plastic daisies poking out of the AstroTurf. In this picture, we had just been shopping, and were about to load up and head home.

It is pleased to meet you.

*coughhacksnotwheeze*

It’s been a quiet week.

Knitting was achieved for a swap I have coming up.

And neighbour obviously passed an exam.

This is what you do when you pass your exams in the Nederlands. You hang your backpack/satchel out the front with your flag to tell the world that you’ve passed.

Look, another one …

Quiet week

Hi everyone. I’m sorry for the radio silence after last Friday’s post. I guess what happened was inevitable. Once we moved and things got a little bit quieter for the first time in months, we both came down with some vicious head colds. I’m still trying to throw off a horrendous lung crunching cough. At least you can’t catch it through the internet!

We did take a little time out to head into town last Tuesday though (where I coughed and snotted all over everyone I met. I’m sure they were very grateful!)

It was on this excursion that for the first time I saw the cranes dredging the canals. It was quite mesmerising for a couple of minutes. I have yet to find a crane with a magnet hauling up all the bicycles that get dumped in the canals each day though!

In a final piece of news for this week, and it has taken me a week to get around to posting this, Himself got a delivery in the post recently that wasn’t entirely expected!

Knowing a Master Roaster as we do, it was wonderful to receive a birthday surprise of some of his wares in the post. We have been making good use of it too! It’s nice to be loved. 🙂

See you all after the weekend when hopefully things will have returned to normal!

Summer Evenings

Suddenly we woke up one morning and it was Summer. We’ve had days of high twenties (Celcius), warm breezes, and the light doesn’t really go anywhere until 10pm.

In short, the perfect weather to sit in a cafe, by the side of a canal, have a beer, and watch the canal traffic try and navigate their way around each other.

Welcome to Summer in Amsterdam!

A Month Later

It’s taken us a whole month, but we finally made it to not one Museum, but two! In the one day!

However, given that these were the Sex Museum and the Torture Museum …

Photobucket

And I don’t really want to lose my G rating …

Photobucket

There won’t be any photos of those.

Both museums were good, though I think you get more for your money out of the Sex Museum. Both were stark reminders that humans have been humans for thousands of years. In the case of the Sex museum that wasn’t a bad thing. In the case of the Torture museum it was just depressing. It was a good thing the Torture museum was so much smaller really … though three times the price!

The weather has finally been warming up and we have been increasing our wanderings accordingly. Front door steps and buildings are breaking out in wisteria and blossoms.

Any sign of sun and the locals take to the canals.

And all the trees are gearing up for Summer with stunning canopies of fresh bright new green leaves.

Photobucket

To celebrate our first month we headed out to dinner to one of the many steak houses in the area.

Good food in abundance really is a wonder of the modern world!

Have a wonderful week!
