I had been planning to do this project for a while, and whilst floundering around recently, wondering what to make next I came across the hand painted 100% alpaca yarn I’d bought months ago in anticipation. All I needed to do was head out and buy some appropriate beads!
Footpath Ladybugs
Hallo mijn faithful readers! The Netherlands is in the middle of a long weekend, so I hope you’ll forgive the brevity of this post.
I wasn’t long in Amsterdam before I noticed that some of the paving tiles in the streets of Amsterdam had ladybugs on them. It’s a joyous little touch that adds light and happiness to my day, and a smile to my face whenever I see them.
It took me a little while to figure out what they were, and what they were for. Mostly because I kept forgetting to look them up when I got back to a computer. When I did take a photo, and therefore remember to search them, it turned out that they are to raise awareness for the National Foundation Against Senseless Violence. (Link in Nederlands.)
As a concept I love it! And it’s a cause I can definitely get behind! As someone who wasn’t around when the project was launched, they aren’t obviously apparent what they represent.
But they are a sweet ray of sunshine in a very overcast Spring.
Welcome to the week everyone!
Language Course 2 – Week 1
Yes Ladies and Gentlemen, Dames and Heren, it’s back on. I’m partaking in a second language course. Let’s see how much more knowledge I can shove into my brain without things falling out. Alternatively, let’s see if we can figure out what old knowledge gets squeezed out of my brain in the process! Fun times all ‘round!
Street Art
Amsterdam has some wonderful street art.
While I was walking around the other day I came upon a street that had a gallery full of wonderful pieces, and I thought I’d share some of them with you. Would you like to know more?
The Amsterdam Museum
Saturday was National Windmill Day. In order to appropriately celebrate this day we were going to get on our bikes and tour some of the eight windmills that are in the city limits of Amsterdam. As we had already been to the one that is open to the public, all the others were in our sights. As the day dawned like many typical Amsterdam days, cold and raining, we soon decided “Sod that for a game of soldiers”, and I took Himself off to the Museum instead.
