Wevers Markt in Hoorn

A group of us got together to head out to Hoorn the other day. It’s about half an hour by train from Amsterdam, and on this particular day Hoorn was hosting its annual Weavers Market!

Current Events

It has been a busy, but sad time in the Netherlands. Everywhere you go the flags are at half-mast.

The ramifications of nearly 200 Dutch people being killed, and over 30 Australians, has left me reflecting on how precious and yet fleeting life can be. Would you like to know more?

Weekend Meditation

I’m sitting at my desk. It’s as good a place as any to be sitting, and begin this blog post. But I haven’t a clue what to write about. I’ve been reading this weekend’s Weekend Meditation over at the Kitchen, and ruminating on my own mediations for what the previous week has held, the up coming week has in store, and where I am at right now in my life.

It’s Summer. I’ve been busy revelling in it. Being outside. Just being in nature, which for me, in Amsterdam, means the park.

Nieuwe Kerk and the 2014 World Press Exhibit

We nearly missed it this year, but we did finally remember to head into the Nieuwe Kerk (New Church) on the final day of the World Press Photo Exhibit.

The Nieuwe Kerk is the 15th Century church built on Dam Square next to the Royal Palace, and was used for the investiture of King Willem Alexander and Queen Maxima in 2013.
