Art After Hours

Art After Hours is one of my favourite things to do on a Wednesday night.

Photobucket

We went last week for the first time in months so that we could see the Mad Square Exhibition which is on until November 6th.

Photobucket

The Gallery always puts on a spectacular exhibition, and this was no exception. Taking you through the artistic movement from it’s inception through to the conclusion I found a new appreciation for this era of German art. It was the first time I’ve truly understood an appreciated Kandinsky!

There were no photos allowed in that particular exhibition. But there were no limits in the rest of the gallery (so long as you didn’t use flash).

Photobucket

I thought I might take a moment to share with you a new find

And some of my old favourites!

Art After Hours is on every Wednesday night from 5pm (normal closing time) to 9pm, and well worth the look in. Take some time to browse the weekly program to find out what’s on.

(I’ve just realised Flacco is on tonight!!! *has a fan-girl moment*)

The Unexpected Adventure

I make many suggestions. Probably more than your average human. So when Himself surprises me and takes me up on one we end up with an unexpected Adventure to the Aquarium!

There is always something new and fresh to see, or animals that weren’t moving are.

There were big things,

Photobucket

and small things.

Photobucket

Aren’t sea dragons one of the most beautiful things you’ve ever seen?

Photobucket

Spot the stonefish!
Photobucket

And his three deadly mates.

Photobucket

Don’cha just love wobbegongs?

Photobucket

And I’m not sure if I missed it before or if it’s new, but having recently been there, I loved the Barrier Reef exhibit! It was very special to be able to say I’ve seen them in the wild

Photobucket

And today, a first for this blog. Just for you we have … moving picutres!!! First a cow …

And second, another deadly one, the scorpion fish!

Who was trying to evade my camera! Oh well.

Until next time, keep Adventuring!

Fudge and Frittatas

I got it into my head to cook something new and exciting the other night. I made fudge first because … I felt like it. I used this espresso fudge recipe because it looked fairly fool proof.

It was. So much so that I managed to forget to take any photos of me making it.

Finished, it looks like this

Photobucket

and it tastes delicious!

I had also been staring at this spinach bacon and brie mini frittata recipe for a few days and thought it would be a delicious addition to my work day lunch box. Full of protein to get me through the afternoon.

So I gathered together my ingredients

Photobucket

Chopped everything up

Photobucket

And began putting it together

Photobucket

I was impressed with just how quickly and simply it all went together! Though those of you with much experience cooking will spot my fatal flaw in this picture.

Photobucket

Once cooked, they looked and tasted delicious! I have plans to make them in future substituting the bacon for smoked salmon, which I think will also work remarkably well.

Photobucket

So did you spot my flaw?

That’s right. Baking powder. Baking powder was my undoing. You see (for those that don’t know), I filled each compartment to the top and had 3 empty. But baking powder makes things rise.

Photobucket

Yes. I spent the next day cleaning the oven.

Rookie mistake *shakes head*

Ghoti Travels Pt5

Cairns. It’s a relaxed place.

Photobucket

Where after dredging their beach back to mudflat,

Photobucket

they created a man-made beach to make up for it.

Photobucket

We found a really relaxing café,

Photobucket

and sat there ‘til the sun went down.

Photobucket

We made use of the hotel pool.

Photobucket

We listend to the bats fighting across the street, and I wondered when they ever find time to sleep. I mean they seem to squabble all day, and fly all night so …

Photobucket

The promenade was testament to the community determination to be fit and healthy. There were activity points all along it on one side.

Photobucket

And spectacular mudflats that teemed with life on the other.

Photobucket

All kinds of life …

Photobucket

I love our sunburnt country! *grins*

Regular posting resumes next week! See you then!

Walking home from work

Since being forcibly stopped from my jogging regime by debilitating shin splints back in April, I have missed it more than I can say. So it has been so wonderful this last few weeks that Winter seems to have disappeared! With the days stretching themselves back out I have begun walking home from work again.

Photobucket

I have been able to stop an photograph the magnolias like I wanted to, though I think they really are confused and think it’s Spring! I hope there won’t be another cold snap!

Photobucket

And being able to have this view on the walk home is truly magical!

Photobucket

I love the fairy lights through the branches of the trees reflecting off the water through the boats.

We truly do live in a beautiful city!
