The stairs in the Maritime Museum.

The stairs in the Maritime Museum.

There are so many beautiful and well thought out museums in Amsterdam, and I’m continually taken aback by the diversity and depth of knowledge available to everyone. In our most recent weekend exploration we headed out to the Scheepvaartmuseum! In English, this is the Maritime Museum. Given the breadth and depth of the Dutch maritime history, we knew this was going to be an amazing experience!

The museum is housed in the old Arsenal building that has been repurposed and refurbished in a complete metamorphosis! Would you like to know more?
Ok, so, I used to live around the corner from this place, and it’s taken me nearly two years to get in there, but I have finally gone in to the Katten Kabinet!

This is the place you go when you want to have a look at how cats are represented in art … Would you like to know more?
Titan and I returned to the Handbag Museum the other day, and in a fortuitous turn of events, they do allow photography! Just not flash photography. So get ready for the grand (abbreviated) tour!

Of course the first “handbags” for carrying all your personal items were pockets, and these were hidden in your grand, voluminous, all-encompassing skirts!
But when styles altered and silhouettes decreased in size, pockets became an external accessory! Would you like to know more?
The Jewish Museum is currently hosting a Wassily Kandinsky exhibit! At a friend’s invitation we headed off to enrich our lives!

I really like Kandinsky’s work. The colour, movement, and flow all speak to me. Would you like to know more?
