Art & About

The opening ceremonies for Art and About this year kicked off on Friday night. We had been planning on going since seeing it advertised at the Art Gallery when we were there for the Mad Square Exhibit. Until I went to the A&A website I hadn’t realised just how many other venues would be hosting opening event entertainment as well! But we were determined to go to the Cabaret at the Art Gallery.

We started our afternoon in the growing wind and dropping temperatures in Martin Place where there was free music,

amongst the towering buildings

Photobucket

and the historic banks,

Photobucket

with free play-doh for all to enjoy!

Photobucket

When the wind got a bit too much for us, we headed off over the park through darkening twilight

Photobucket

to the Gallery,

Photobucket

which was swarming with people

Photobucket

and set up with some really comfortable looking lounges!

Photobucket

These guys were just incredible, and I wish I could have gotten close enough to get a decent photograph or two! But I am determined to hunt down a CD if it exists!

I don’t know about you, but I love sitting down to watch a show in the lobby of the Art Gallery of NSW and being presented with a man in suspenders.

Photobucket

Especially when it turns out I know him and he recognises me! *grins waves to Black Paul* I know all the best people! Means I can get good photographs for you guys too!

Photobucket

It had been a long day at this point, and though not late, we took this opportunity to farewell our friends and wandered our way back through my picturesque Sydney to a bus stop.

Photobucket

Until next time My Lovelies!

Jurassic Lounge

Just like so many other people, we went to the final Jurassic Lounge of 2011. Those of you with keen eyesight and memories will remember that we went to the first one way back in February.

Though I must say, going by the volume of people that turned up, I think they’d be silly not to run it again! I don’t think I’ve ever seen the museum so full! Sections of it when there’s a specific exhibition on yes, but the was packed all night! HOORAY for the Australian Museum!

Photobucket

Just for a change of pace from our usual route through the museum (beginning down and heading up), with tickets purchased and complimentary drinks acquired, we headed on up to the Dinosaur exhibit. I was determined this time to work my way down through the Museum for a change!

Photobucket

As much as I really got into wandering around the Museum with the glass of wine in my hand, it did somewhat inhibit picture taking when you need both hands to be steady because of the low light! But I managed to work around it! *smiles *

Photobucket

Scores of people!

Photobucket

You might remember Ripley from the February post linked to above …

Photobucket

It really is amazing the art that can be created on the wall with a projector and some dirty glass dishes!

Photobucket

*tries not to make a Monty Python reference *

Photobucket

For those in the know, this was originally where Himself and I were planning on holding our Wedding Reception. In the Bone Room! Is that not a spectacular idea?!? Dinner amongst the bones!!!

Photobucket

At this Jurassic Lounge though, the bone room was the karaoke room.

Photobucket

I have a few more photos that I would like to share with you from this trip, but those can wait for now. Hi-Ho Silver, AWAY!

Photobucket

Until next time, keep adventuring!

Art After Hours

Art After Hours is one of my favourite things to do on a Wednesday night.

Photobucket

We went last week for the first time in months so that we could see the Mad Square Exhibition which is on until November 6th.

Photobucket

The Gallery always puts on a spectacular exhibition, and this was no exception. Taking you through the artistic movement from it’s inception through to the conclusion I found a new appreciation for this era of German art. It was the first time I’ve truly understood an appreciated Kandinsky!

There were no photos allowed in that particular exhibition. But there were no limits in the rest of the gallery (so long as you didn’t use flash).

Photobucket

I thought I might take a moment to share with you a new find

Photobucket

Photobucket

And some of my old favourites!

Photobucket

Photobucket

Art After Hours is on every Wednesday night from 5pm (normal closing time) to 9pm, and well worth the look in. Take some time to browse the weekly program to find out what’s on.

(I’ve just realised Flacco is on tonight!!! *has a fan-girl moment*)

The Unexpected Adventure

I make many suggestions. Probably more than your average human. So when Himself surprises me and takes me up on one we end up with an unexpected Adventure to the Aquarium!

There is always something new and fresh to see, or animals that weren’t moving are.

There were big things,

Photobucket

and small things.

Photobucket

Aren’t sea dragons one of the most beautiful things you’ve ever seen?

Photobucket

Spot the stonefish!
Photobucket

And his three deadly mates.

Photobucket

Don’cha just love wobbegongs?

Photobucket

And I’m not sure if I missed it before or if it’s new, but having recently been there, I loved the Barrier Reef exhibit! It was very special to be able to say I’ve seen them in the wild

Photobucket

And today, a first for this blog. Just for you we have … moving picutres!!! First a cow …

And second, another deadly one, the scorpion fish!

Who was trying to evade my camera! Oh well.

Until next time, keep Adventuring!

Weekend walks

The Day Job has done it again and I’ve been run off my feet trying to get everything that I need to get done fit in to each day!

On the weekend when I called a halt to everything going on, we walked in a new direction. Have some pictures of the beautiful area in which we live!

If anymore evidence was needed that we celebrate Yule at the wrong end of the year; the poinsettias were in bloom in profusion!

Happy July!
