Kazimir Malevich at the Stedelijk

I have a friend who is a Soviet-ologist (yes, really), and this year is Netherlands-Russia year! Celebrating 400 years of diplomatic ties between the two countries. (This may or may not be going well at the moment.)

As part of these festivities, I have been to a film festival and seen Oktyabr (1928) with amazing accompaniment by organist Joost Langeveld. Two and a half hours of intense Russian documentary about the rise of communism. But this weekend, Himself was able to join us and we headed out to the opening day of the Kazimir Malevich Exhibition on at the Stedelijk Museum.

This was the largest exhibition in twenty years to be devoted to Malevich and his work. Would you like to know more?

London – Part 10

Ladies and Gentlemen, the ticket I bought on Platform 9 ¾ didn’t get me to Hogwarts, but I did get there.

Fellini Exhibition

It was the last week of the Fellini Exhibition which was on as a part of the Eye program for September. Himself and I had been talking about going to this since we saw the very first posters, and we knew that if we didn’t act fast we would run out of time.

It was a wonderful exhibition of Fellini’s life work. Not set out chronologically, but within the themes and obsessions that ran through his life, his childhood, and the films he made. Would you like to know more?

Escher Exhibit

There is an amazing exhibit titled “Escher Meets Islamic Art” currently on at the Tropenmuseum. We ventured off on the weekend for an insight into the inspiration for one of our favourite artists; M. C. Escher.

Escher was born in Friesland, but it was on his travels through Spain where he fell in love with the Moorish influences in the architecture. Would you like to know more?

The Rijksmuseum

The Rijksmuseum is open to the public again, and before we have a slew of guests come to visit I thought it might be nice to be able to speak authoritatively on how it looks after the refurbishment.

It is absolutely stunning! An amazing and wonderful world class Museum! The entry hall is a huge open atrium like the Louvre, and crowd management was excellent! Would you like to know more?
