Goal Setting

In the interests of taking the inspiration from last week and running with it, I have been working like a Trojan on my shawl.

Photobucket

Though you can’t really see it yet, it has grown considerably! I have begun the second ball of yarn which indicates that there is over 700m of yarn so far in the project.

Through the magic of lace, there is very little actually see at this point. But I flattened out some of the design in order to give you an idea of the final product.

Photobucket

Can you see the petal shapes?

Because this is such a large project (and let’s not think about all the other unfinished pieces I have around at the moment), I needed something short and sharp to pick up my spirits. So I took a break for a couple of nights and whipped up this entrelac hat.

Photobucket

Isn’t it wonderful?!? I love the colour and the movement that the stitch pattern gives the fabric!

There is something else small I’m working on at the moment, but it’s not yet in a fit state to show the internet. So you’ll all have to wait. 😉

So what have you been working on recently?

Breaking Routine

Going away for a week can really make you feel better about the world. You know?

In a city that won’t soon forget the last year and a half,

Photobucket

we sat and had coffee next to this little guy after experiencing a 5.8, and then an hour later a 6.0.

For giftmas we were safe, and had family around us. Highlight of my day was holding the 4month old and being the only one who could get him to go to sleep.

By Boxing Day we were on roads surrounded by rolling hills,

Photobucket

dotted with sheep and flowers.

Photobucket

Our aim was for a small French village.

Photobucket

Which we found.

Photobucket

I started a new circular shawl,

Photobucket

we went out on the boat,

Photobucket

there was a dolphin hunt,

Photobucket

fresh blue cod for lunch,

Photobucket

and perfect sunsets.

I hope your holidays are full of family and fun, and that the coming year is easier than the last one.

Happy New Years Eve everyone!

Crown Prince

The Crown Prince Shawl is coming along nicely if I do say so myself! Nearly at the half way point for the body.

Photobucket

The nupps are getting a little tedious, and the pattern is repetitive. This last part makes it particularly good TV knitting at the end of a long day!

I went through my yarn stash over the weekend and have turfed a lot of things which I have realised I’m never going to actually knit with (not when I have so much nicer yarn in a different tub!). I will attempt to get it all up to Vinnies this weekend coming if friends don’t claim it first *looks pointedly at a certain subscriber*

Nothing else to report at this juncture.

Organisation

I have been getting organised. I know! Me! Who’d have thought?! But in spite of myself, I am working hard at a great purge of the household and its surplus items. Mainly because we have too many to fit within these walls, and I want to simplify my/our lifestyle. (Yes, Himself is in on the kick too.)

We have a great wall of things growing to go to Vinnies, and what seems to be an even greater mound out the back that will require a skip of some sort to remove it all. Yesterday I sorted and filed a stack of papers that was a foot high!

It’s very cleansing. The feeling of a great weight lifting as you realise that you don’t need these things that you’ve been hanging on to for all these years (moving with you with each consecutive move, taking up space in the moving vans and therefore costing you money…)

I have a wonderful theory that with all these extraneous distractions removed, I’ll have time to do all the other things I haven’t had time to do so far! Isn’t that a wonderful theory? I love theories! *grins*

Anyway; all of this leads to very boring photography. So here’s where I’m up to with knitting. I’m making the Crown Prince Shawl from Knitted Lace of Estonia.

There are 7 of those crosses around the boarder. I’m using Filatura di Crosa Centlovaggi which is a cobweb weight yarn, on 3.5mm KnitPicks circulars.

Why I decided more nupps were in my future I’m not exactly sure. But it should be a stunning piece when completed! I may think about entering it in the Royal Easter Show for 2012 if the world doesn’t end!

Nupps in Silk

I powered my way through the Percy Shawl as I really wanted to be able to post it to it’s intended recipient as soon as possible. For no other reason than I really want to give it to her.

Because I can, here is Percy in photos!

Finishing

Photobucket

It always impresses me just how much lace needs to be blocked, and how little stitch definition you get before blocking.

Off the needles.

Soaking

All pinned out.

I feel terribly bad for having no posts lined up for last week when I suddenly got busy. I’ll try and do better in the future I promise!
