Handwerkbeurs 2015

The annual pilgrimage to the hand craft fair in Zwolle was last week. As has come to be expected, it maintained its reputation for being a crafter’s dream come true!

Upon entrance we stampeded our way directly to the ever popular, all time favourite; Bart & Francis. Not only to pore over their amazing selection of fibres, but I wanted to show off a project to them which I had made from their gorgeous yarn. (The details of which you will see in a coming post later this week!) Would you like to know more?

Handwerkbeurs Zwolle

A small group of us got together again this year to head out East to Zwolle and the Handwerkbeurs! This was a much anticipated, and yet slightly scary prospect given how much opportunity there is to fall under the spell of some magical yarn!

I must admit that I had been looking forward to going back to this Hand Craft Fair since I was introduced to it last year! Would you like to know more?

Solstice

As I was surfing around on Pinterest (my new internet obsession) the other day. I came across an outfit and thought to myself, “Oh DAMN Self! You HAVE to make that to wear to Winter Magic this year!” And then I remembered that it’s currently June. Therefore Winter Magic, though I’m in the middle of Summer at the moment, was this weekend.

So a couple of things; First, happy solstice for whichever hemisphere you are currently in. Your days are currently the longest they’ll be for the year, or the shortest. I know we’re getting dark about 11pm. Second, Happy Winter Magic Festival!

In honour of this occasion, here are some of my favourite photos from the last few years’ celebrations.

There is always so much fun to be had!

It’s a time to see, and be seen. (Yes, I was the object of this stare. Probably had something to do with the Lime green fun fur. What?!?)

Masks are worn.

The crowds can be incredible!

And a good sense of humour all around!

I hope all participants had a wonderful time, and had warm wood fires and comfort food waiting for you when you got out of the cold!

Goal Setting

In the interests of taking the inspiration from last week and running with it, I have been working like a Trojan on my shawl.

Photobucket

Though you can’t really see it yet, it has grown considerably! I have begun the second ball of yarn which indicates that there is over 700m of yarn so far in the project.

Through the magic of lace, there is very little actually see at this point. But I flattened out some of the design in order to give you an idea of the final product.

Can you see the petal shapes?

Because this is such a large project (and let’s not think about all the other unfinished pieces I have around at the moment), I needed something short and sharp to pick up my spirits. So I took a break for a couple of nights and whipped up this entrelac hat.

Photobucket

Isn’t it wonderful?!? I love the colour and the movement that the stitch pattern gives the fabric!

There is something else small I’m working on at the moment, but it’s not yet in a fit state to show the internet. So you’ll all have to wait. 😉

So what have you been working on recently?

Fabric Extravaganza!

I’m a naughty blogger. I may have been a little slack on the posting last week, owing to the day job being very hectic. But I’m catching up! And here is the fabric I bought that was mentioned in the last post.

And this final one fed into my current fascination with antique maps!

It’s receiving an embroidery embellishment now before I make it into a book slip cover.

More on Monday! I promise!
