The Rocks – Again

I’ve been going over and over the rest of the photos from the wee excursion to the Rocks from the past weekend, and it seems a terrible shame to me that so many of them are left unseen. So here’s just a sampler of some of my favourites!

I apologise in advance for WordPress cutting off the right edge of my landscape photos, I’m still making tweaks to this page, and trying to sort out some of the intricacies!

And some of the older features.

I love the market canopy. It feels so permanent, so stable, and holds so much under it’s sails. Yet, during the week it doesn’t exist and cars drive along this road!

I adored this back pack, seen on a passing market go-er. I should have stopped her and asked her where she acquired it!

These exquisite heels were in a local art gallery just down the street. Aren’t they just spectacular?!?

The horse drawn carriage is there to remind people of a bygone era. Something a little older, a little slower paced, and the rides are remarkably reasonably priced!

As our final stop before we headed for Circular Quay, we dropped into one of the most magical places in Sydney. The Puppet Shop. I didn’t get any photos of inside, you aren’t allowed. But walking off the street, and down the rickety old stair case (which you know is original) is like entering another world. It brings a joy to my heart and peace to my being.

And the sign over the counter announced that it’s for sale …

The Rocks

We spent the most wonderful day rediscovering The Rocks Markets. There is always so much to see and do there, it is a hubbub of colour,

excitement

and possibly a little pandering to the tourist dollar!

It has extended since last I was there, around the Argyle Centre and down Argyle St. (which has been blocked off to cars. How long has it been since I went to the Rocks?!?)

We managed to procure a few bags from one of my favourite designers Pretty in Pink. I think I’ll need to purchase some lounge pants and possibly a kimono from her before Summer really kicks in too! And her aprons are to die for!

It is a wonderfully creative market, and the emphasis this week was on designers and Summer fashions.

It was ridiculously inspiring and made me want to pull out my sewing machine again! (It’s been so long) But there’s something for everyone!

At the end of the day, when the hubbub threatens to overcome, you can always meander in the direction of some of the oldest pubs in Sydney.

Until next time!

Expedition

This morning I headed up the street to two of my favourite shops.

Beginning at Herbies; I bought a small jar of cloves for some planned gluhwein (I love winter!), and found a pre-mixed packet of “Itallian Herbs” which I bought to inspire me later in the week.

herbs and spices at Herbies

Herbies  makes the often intimidating world of spices not just approachable, but easy. They have an immense selection of individual spices for when you know what you want; and their pre-mixed packets that assist when you know what you want, but not how to get there, or if you’re just after a new taste sensation and don’t know where to begin. Then there’s the gift packs!

After tearing ourselves away from the heady scent from the large vase of cinnamon quills by the door, we wandered up the road to The Essential Ingredient.

Your one stop shop for anything you need in the kitchen.

Walking through this store reminds me of my childhood. Growing up with someone who loves to cook, instilled in me a fascination, and respect for the magic that can occur at the hands of a master chef.

The have so many wonderful tools, implements, and gadgets! I’m sure I could find a use for them all in my kitchen!

And did I mention they also carry ingredients?

I may not have been entirely successful in keeping my wallet ensconced in the depths of my bag!
