Socks!

I did it! I finally finished my latest pair of knee high socks! I’m not sure I can adequately describe just how much I love these socks. The variegations of rotting, bruised flesh accented by the clotting blood is I think perfectly shown off in the entrelac stitch pattern, which I learned specifically to pull these off! 😀 I wanted to highlight the short colourway.

Now for some details;

I used Lorna’s Laces Sheperd Sock in Zombie BBQ. Purchased from Yay for Yarn. I ran out most of the way through when I decided late that I needed knee high socks. Thanks to Kiri for organising me some emergency back up yarn to cover my stupidity! This is the reason for the colour variation at the top. Hand dyed yarn will never look exactly the same, even when from the same batch. It’s part of its allure!

The pattern is Entrelac Socks by Eunny Jang, though I skipped the tassels, and on the advice of some comments on Ravelry when I got to the top increased to 8 stitches as I believe they were designed for narrower calves than mine. 😉

Now for the weather to cool down enough for me to wear them!!!

Time in the Park

One of my favourite pass times is picnics in the park. Large expanses of grass, big trees providing shade from the glaring sunshine, and lazy relaxation time with friends. An extension of this is Teddy Bears Picnics; with a loose definition of “teddy bear”!

(This year along with Titan the chihuahua, We had a pukeko and an elephant.)

Being Summer, we headed for the Sydney Royal Botanic Gardens on the harbour for a piece of grass to spread out on for a few hours. We parked under an enormous fig tree (is there any other kind?) for protection and made ourselves comfortable with our cameras.

There were lots of people around, all doing their own version of nothing.

When was the last time you took time out to do your own brand of nothing in the great outdoors?

Unexpected Sundays

I love unexpected Sundays! 😀 We walked down Parramatta Road and experienced unexpected things! (Lots of phone pics today, wish I’d taken a better camera!)

We’ll begin with one of my favourite and most dilapidated buildings.

Moving on to a cool poster we found for a local hair salon.

Moving on to some interesting discoveries in a newly expanded second hand shop I think these photos speak for themselves …

WE WIN!

Christchurch

For those of you asking, and those of you unaware; all of Himself’s family (and a good number of our friends) are in Christchurch.

We have been extremely lucky in that everyone we contacted has been ok. Via SMS and facebook everyone has checked in and if needed moved to safer accommodation.

We know of a couple of homes in the path of the quake, at least one needs to be demolished, and one foundation is cracked.

The safer accommodation where most of our loved ones are, had power restored last night.

All in all we got off lightly.

For the most up to date information I am following the live feeds on stuff.co.nz and TVNZ.co.nz .

If you feel moved to donate there have already been a number of scams identified, so please be aware, and only donate via reputable sources like the Red Cross. In Australia go here – Red Cross

Thank you all for your concern.

I always look forward to Fair Day. It’s so much fun! There’s so much to see and do, and so many friends to catch up with.

It’s difficult to convey even in photos, just how many thousands of people participate, how diverse the crowd is, and how much love is shared in Victoria Park on Fair Day.

I look forward to it every year! (And the after sun balm is on ice for when I get home!)

Not my best day photographically, but I made a bad choice early as to which lens I was going to use for the day. *shrugs* I worked with it 🙂
