Today’s Table – Crown Prince

I have picked up the Crown Prince shawl again after a year and a half. Last seen here. I thought it was about time I finished it.

I have just the top half of the sixth cross up the side to do, then the row of crosses along the top. Then I get to cast on for the edgings, graft them on, and then block. Not insurmountable, but from here it still feels kind of epic.

To fill out this post a little, and because I said I would, here are the flamingos on my balcony. They fill me with near endless happiness.

I am just waiting for the weather to warm up enough for me to share my coffee with them each morning!

Today’s Table

I began Boxing Day 2011.
It took 1700m of yarn.

Photobucket

It has been worked on in 3 countries (New Zealand, Australia, and Nederlands).
I have finally finished (except for weaving in the ends).

Here is the Evenstar in Midnight Blue. (size EU40 shoe for scale)

And here are some close ups.

End of an era. *heaves a sigh of relief*

With the cold comes the knitting

As the days get colder and wetter, I’m more inclined towards indoor activities. Nowhere has this been more obvious than in my knitting.

I’m nearly done with the falling leaves socks, and not before time, as all the leaves are turning now. I have been taking them with me to knit night, but will have to find something else to take next week if this continues!

Photobucket

This is a gift, and though it doesn’t look like much now, it is a truly magical garment. It is knit all in one piece, and then put together with 2 seams. Once it has been received I shall post you a picture of the finished piece!

Photobucket

I had so much fun making this, that I may need to make a second one in different colours! Or perhaps just create a matching set for this one …

I have also been working on this piece;

Photobucket

Those pointy bits there meant that I am on the home stretch! It took me quite some time to figure out the pattern. There was LOTS of cursing, and before I attacked it with a flame thrower, it did spend a bit of time in time-out. But I’m on the way now!

What projects have you been working on?

I’ve been knitting!

So I haven’t caught you up on the knitting for a while, so here goes!

I finally finished the scarf I was making for Himself’s birthday. Turned out rather well I thought! More importantly, He likes it!

Photobucket

I’ve been working out a new pattern for some brooches to sell. I found some beautiful vintage crystal buttons for the centres! And the mohair yarn is incredibly soft! They’re like flowers made from clouds!

Photobucket

I have been forced to stop work on the Evenstar Shawl as I’ve run out of yarn. I have more on the way. It’s just still on its way with all our other stuff.

Of course, working without all my usual tools handy does have a few drawbacks! I’m really missing my swift and ball winder! But we made do. It just took a little longer than usual.

Photobucket

You can’t stop me from knitting! Especially not when I get my hands on my favourite Lorna’s Laces, Helen’s Lace yarn, in the most warm creamy delicious chocolate colour! So smooth! So soft!

Photobucket

It doesn’t look like much yet … Of course as beautiful as that piece is going to be when it’s done, it’s getting a touch big to take to Knit Night. So I’ve begun some socks in a gorgeous yarn sent to me along with a jar of vegemite from the UK! Thank you Clare! It’s just the most beautiful liquid buttery colour!

Photobucket

I’m doing them in a falling leaves pattern in anticipation of my first real Autumn which is on it’s way! Living in a mostly evergreen country up until recently has had it’s downsides. I can’t wait to see all the leaves change colour!

Loving where we live

So much has happened, and continues to happen. Yet it’s all settling down and shuffling itself into a routine now. We both have local mobile numbers and Skype has been set up to keep in touch with those slightly further away.

Letters and postcards are being, and have been, sent to people we love, and with the abundance of beautiful cards available, will continue to be sent too! If you’re so inclined to return the gesture, leave me a message and I’ll email you our postal address! 😉

Himself heads off to the office each day, while I maintain house & home, and work at having merchandise in my store before it re-opens.

Things that continue to take my breath away and bring massive grins of disbelief to my face when I see them are the swans floating down the canals in the centre of town. Doing what swans do, just swanning around. Getting in the way of the boats.

Photobucket

There are so many little alleys to explore, all with hidden secrets and gems to be discovered.

Photobucket

So many times (to the frustration of Himself) we’ll be powering at speed down a street and I’ll stop and veer off to one side to get a closer look at a marionette,

Photobucket

some intricate masks,

Photobucket

or a shop where the entire theme is ROOD! (red) (I’ll take one of everything!!!)

Photobucket

I could spend a lifetime exploring these streets. Everyday there is something new and different to find, explore, and experience.

Oh! And I’ve been knitting too! I’m finally on the edging of the shawl I began on Boxing Day back in Robinsons Bay!

Just 44 more repeats to go!
