The countdown continues

As is I guess standard for this time of year, things are hectic.

The little doors on the Advent calendar are being opened one by one.

Photobucket

Friday night was the end of a long week, and we ended up first in Cockle Bay,

Photobucket

then over in Darling Harbour where we had tapas for dinner

Photobucket

with Sangria.

Photobucket

Over the weekend I put up our tree. With a little help from Himself,

Photobucket

it was decorated.

Photobucket

I thought this the perfect accompaniment.
Photobucket

There’s a gold ghoti somewhere … oh yes. Near the Electric Bass.

Photobucket

After all that excitement, and in an effort to escape the unseasonable weather, it was time for a bit of a snuggle for some warmth!
Photobucket

34 sleeps until Santa

… And all the shops know it.

Photobucket

As is the tradition in these parts, once the decorations go into the shops a friend and I go every year and spend some time analysing the year’s tree trimming trends. It is often hilarious, and not a little scary!

Photobucket

Himself doesn’t get it. He is just mostly horrified by the whole shebang. I’m putting it down to some as yet undefined childhood trauma. Silly duffer.

This year if you follow the twit stream you will have been a part of some of it as it happened. For those that didn’t, here is a quick recap. Apologies in advance for the fuzzy nature of the phone photos. It’s hard to keep still while you’re laughing.

Photobucket

Himself isn’t convinced of my alternative plan to a wreath on the door. But I ask you, how can you go wrong with a purple glitter stags head to welcome your guests to the festivities?

Photobucket

This year everything seems to be about glitter and mirror balls. Does that scream disco to you? Can we get some fabulous Santas in here?

Photobucket

See what I mean about the glitter? (a puffer fish, seriously. Can you think of anything more giftmas? I bought a pink one!)

Photobucket

The DJ’s window always come to the party and are worth a visit. This year they out did themselves with socks on sheep …

Photobucket

while … (wait for it) … sheperds washed their socks by night!

Photobucket

That’s knee slapping humour right there folks! Did you all slap your knees?

With that, we moved on back to the new food court and tried a new place. This one.

Photobucket

and got rare roast beef, with onion relish. roasted vegetables, and duck fat roasted potatoes.

Photobucket

TO DIE FOR! And under $20!

Ghoti Travels Pt5

Cairns. It’s a relaxed place.

Photobucket

Where after dredging their beach back to mudflat,

Photobucket

they created a man-made beach to make up for it.

Photobucket

We found a really relaxing café,

Photobucket

and sat there ‘til the sun went down.

Photobucket

We made use of the hotel pool.

Photobucket

We listend to the bats fighting across the street, and I wondered when they ever find time to sleep. I mean they seem to squabble all day, and fly all night so …

Photobucket

The promenade was testament to the community determination to be fit and healthy. There were activity points all along it on one side.

Photobucket

And spectacular mudflats that teemed with life on the other.

Photobucket

All kinds of life …

Photobucket

I love our sunburnt country! *grins*

Regular posting resumes next week! See you then!

Ghoti Travels Pt4

Yes we did it. We snorkeled on the outer Great Barrier Reef. Not only that, we did it on a day with a severe wind warning! Choppy doesn’t begin to describe the trip back! But the trip out was akin to the Manly Ferry going through the heads.

We went with Quicksilver to the Agincourt Reef, and I can’t recommend them highly enough!

As you step in the water is teeming with fish. Even on the steps off the pontoon!

Photobucket

Photobucket

Himself has an underwater camera, and mine was underwater equipped for the expedition.

Photobucket

What with the severe wind warning, the water was choppier than expected when you were out swimming in it!

Photobucket

But there was so much to see!

Photobucket

Photobucket

We only got out of the water long enough to eat lunch in the middle of the day, and while that settled did the tour on the semi-submersible. Only on that boat did we see a shark or sea turtle.

Photobucket

Photobucket

Before you knew it the horns were sounding to drag everyone in from the water to take the hour and a half long journey back to dock. But there was time to get submerged in one last fish feeding frenzy!

Photobucket

Just one more entry to come in the tales of our adventure!

Ghoti Travels Pt3

At our final theme park for this trip we found our way to Movie World.

Photobucket

Where I may have become a bit of a fan girl.

Photobucket

I’m not saying I like Batman …

Photobucket

But, you know …

Photobucket

Sometimes … Yeah.

Photobucket

But there were other characters too!

Photobucket

Then we checked out of that hotel and were on to the next leg of our journey!

Photobucket

It wasn’t long before I spotted my first ever glimpse of the Great Barrier Reef.

Photobucket

In our next exciting episode, we was swimmin’ with the fishes, see!
