Some of my favourite places

We’ll start with the Sydney Fish Markets. We’ve been here before. I’ve brought you here a couple of times in the past. It’s one of my many Happy Places, and I love sharing it with other people. On this trip, I shared it with my family, and now I’m sharing it with you.

If you’re a seafood eater you’ll understand just how enveloping and drool-worthy this place is.

There are plenty of things to look at and admire, even if you’re not planning on ordering (or paying) for them anytime soon.

Of course seafood isn’t the only thing you find at the Fish Markets. There are any number of things that you need to accompany it as well!

I have been known to spend exorbitant amounts of money at the attached deli and green grocer.

We did indeed end up that night feasting on prawns, fresh bread, prime olive oil, dukkah and a rich aged balsamic vinegar! Food of Kings I tell you!

Sydney isn’t only made of food (though sometimes when I go visiting it does feel that I’m eating my way through my childhood in the short time we have to visit) but after a good feed, walking around Darling Harbour is a wonderful way to burn off some of the bloat.

It’s easy for me to sit here and type about how it’s got some wonderful bars and restaurants, but when push comes to shove, they were about to rip the whole thing down and renovate it all. So I’ll be looking forward to seeing what it becomes on my next visit.

If we’re not eating in Sydney, it feels like we’re drinking. But you know, when you have this many friends who are so dear that no matter how much time you spend with them it never feels like enough … well then, you can’t help but feel like life is not all that bad after all.

As you can see, Pukeko came with us on our travels, and while visiting the Museum he met a some relatives from a bit back on his family tree. He still thinks he fit in ok, and was a bit bummed they didn’t put on a proper friendly BBQ for him.

The locals also seemed a bit stiff.
