Enkhuizen

I’m in the middle of this project, and I was running out of one of the yarns I needed to finish the project. So, at the beginning of an exciting week, I headed out on the train for a day trip to Enkhuizen.

Enkhuizen is a beautiful and picturesque little town about an hour out of Amsterdam by train.

It was one of the main harbour towns for the Dutch East India Company, and was one of the most important harbour cities in the Netherlands.

Though eventually it lost its place of power to Amsterdam.

But as you can see from these pictures, it is still a remarkably beautiful city.

Continuing in the maritime tradition, Enkhuizen is now the location of the Zuiderzeemuseum, which I will have to visit on a subsequent trip!

As I was walking the street I loved coming upon this Jazz Walk of Fame! Each of the pieces which stretch down the street have the name of a different Jazz star on them!

The streets were full of Holland’s unique combination of boutique one-off stores and larger chain shops that I have come to expect.

But I couldn’t dawdle much longer as we had a special guest star for the week! Say hello to HImself’s Sister!

And before I knew it it was of to lunch! Which was presided over by this cute little guy!

I look forward to regaling you all with a week of tour guiding around our wonderful guest! Adventures begin in earnest tomorrow!
