The Resistance Museum

It’s a little bit hard to find an adequate way to celebrate ANZAC Day when you’re not in Australia, New Zealand, or Turkey. So I decided I’d aim as close as I could without a BBQ, pub or two-up in close vicinity, and aimed for the Verzetsmuseum – Resistance Museum of Amsterdam. Wrong war, I know.

House of Bols

I had wanted to go to the House of Bols almost since we arrived in Amsterdam. Having said that though, it obviously wasn’t overly high on my list, as I hadn’t been there yet. All that has now changed.

The House of Bols was founded in 1575 and is one of the oldest distilled spirits companies in the world. It is here that they make genever. Genever is the juniper-flavored and strongly alcoholic traditional liquor of the Netherlands and Belgium, from which gin evolved.

I attempted to go a few weeks earlier when I was being a tour guide, but when it was explained to us that you had to do a tour before being allowed one cocktail and some “tasting” shots, we passed on the idea.

The Diamond Museum

I’m loving Spring. We have been having the most beautiful weather. Not exactly warm, but finally consistently above zero (even if that does mean 5C).

Actually seeing the seasons change is quite remarkable! And you don’t even know you’re missing it in Australia!

As you can see above, it was a glorious Spring day, and we were wondering what we could do. Himself hit upon going to the Diamond Museum as it’s connected to our Museum Cards.
